With a population of 5,751, the Village of Northfield is the best of both worlds: A thriving, desirable suburb and a community with hometown charm. Incorporated in 1927, the Village is located 20 miles from the heart of Chicago’s Loop. With its convenient location, residents and the business community benefit from quick access to the cultural offerings of Chicago while having the benefit of enjoying a semi-rural atmosphere, safe neighborhoods, and a laid-back lifestyle.

Northfield’s scenic properties, outstanding school system, and wonderful mix of businesses has recently attracted younger families. Part of Northfield’s charm is its significant green space, with a park within a mile of every home.  The Village successfully balances that prized open space with commercial development. Northfield is business-friendly and is home to sophisticated corporate entities such as Medline and the Field’s Auto Group and offers a top-notch array of boutique shops and restaurants.

Northfield is proud to be the world headquarters of Medline Industries, The College of American Pathologists and Stepan Chemical Company. Park District

Northfield is fortunate to have outstanding parks and recreational facilities.  Northfield residents are part of either the Northfield Park DistrictWinnetka Part District or Glenview Park District, depending on their address.

In addition to these wonderful parks, the Village is also the home of the Northfield Community Center.  The Community Center is a cooperative effort by the Village of Northfield, School District 29 and the Northfield Park District, and is home to a state-of-the-art fitness facility.  All Northfield residents (regardless of which Park District they belong to) are eligible for resident rates for all Park District programs in the Community Center.
